About this site

The Canadian Geoscience Education Network (CGEN) developed this website to educate, excite, and encourage youth to consider a career in the Earth sciences. The website is part of Canada's celebration of the International Year of Planet Earth (IYPE 2007-2009).

Site and Development

An original grant from the Earth Sciences Sector, Natural Resources Canada (NRCAN) was awarded to CGEN to develop this site. The Canadian Geological Foundation (CGF) provided additional funding, which allowed CGEN to proceed with website development. Under the supervision of John Clague (Simon Fraser University), Jenn Sabean (Terra Factum Consulting) began content development. Web designer Jennifer Smith produced a prototype of the site. Expansion of the site content by Ms. Sabean was enabled by financial support provided by CGEN and the Canadian Federation of Earth Sciences (CFES). The careers website was accepted as a Canadian IYPE project and SkinnyFish Media was selected as the web designer. In early 2008, additional funding was contributed by the Mineral Resources Education Program of British Columbia (MREPBC). Through the efforts of the IYPE Fundraising Committee, Talisman Energy Inc. and Canadian Natural Resources Ltd. (CNRL) provided a generous grant to implement the website. The project would not have been possible without the support of these individuals, groups, and sponsors.
